ONE DAY AUCTIONS
I buy/sell literally thousands of items on eBay each year. I've personally reported dozens of auctions where the seller was using my pictures or descriptions illegally and the auctions were always dropped by eBay in a timely manner... usually within 24-48 hours. Sometimes within just an hour or two. Often, however, scammers will run 1-day auctions, hoping that the backlog reports to eBay Trust & Safety, especially over a weekend, will allow them to complete the auction before eBay has a chance to take action.

In cases where you're reporting a replica or fake, the issue is a little tougher. In this case, the seller clearly stated in the text that the item is a replica... a clear violation of the rules. In most cases, however, the seller tries to pass the item off as genuine. Now, put yourself in the position of the eBay Trust & Safety group. Some guy (you) just reported a fake item and the auction text claims the item to be authentic (or at least doesn't state it is a replica).

The Trust & Safety reviewer doesn't know every fake item out there, so who does he/she believe, the seller or the person reporting the auction? Does the person reporting the item have a concealed agenda (competitor to seller, dislikes seller, general troublemaker, etc.) See the problem? Expecting an auction to be dropped instantly just because you say its a fake is unrealistic.

eBay has a big job, but they don't ignore the problems. I've seen changes and improvements over the last few months as they've actively worked to improve the safety of the marketplace. They recently even hired an ex-FBI guy, Matt Haprin, to head their Investigations/Enforcement team and help them crack down on some of the known problems. Good things are coming. Our complaints (and reports) don't fall on deaf ears.
